Community service guide
Society services include anything that helps us reach a patient like ourselves - from the 12th Step itself to a ten-cent phone call and a cup of coffee to the Society s public service office for national and international action. By reading this book you will learn about the nature of the service and the structure of the service as well as the communication through this structure in the Alcoholics Anonymous Association and you will realize that this is what maintaining the balance between total authority and responsibility and the active and daily operation of global services means. that the connection between all elements of this structure must be permanent. Public Service includes all activities carried out within the conference structure by group districts district committees delegates trustees the Office of Public Service and Grapevine. Usually these services affect the entire community. Alcoholics Anonymous is called an inverted organization because its organizational chart shows groups at the top and trustees at the bottom. Bill W. writes in concept number one: Today the association groups have ultimate responsibility and total authority for our World Service - then in the second concept Bill clearly states that the groups - delegate full authority for the active protection of our World Service to the conference and by this means they turn the conference into a real voice and an effective conscience of our entire society.
